FAQ
Originally appeared as an interview with Rich Seiner published on TwoGroove on May 8, 2009:

1. What is your musical background?
My schooling began with classic rock; all of those great pop and rock & roll bands of the 70’s. I also liked a lot of disco, but I didn’t make that fact public back then. Since my parents came from Peru, I always had Latin music playing in the house; I’m sure it influenced me on some level. As I reached my teens, I started digging on everthing; jazz, metal, hip hop, you name it. Charles is schooled in r&b, jazz, hip hop and classic rock. So classic rock is where we found common ground. We’re both huge Zeppelin and Steely Dan fans; we also dig on more recent stuff like Zero 7, The High Llamas, and Thievery Corporation, to name a few. Our tastes run pretty wide. Charles and I met in 2006. This is really the second incarnation of the band, which came back to life after a five year hiatus.

2. What is the significance of the name?
Nothing special. I love both of those words and the way they each sound. I just put them together.Rainbow Fresh

3. Who writes your songs and what is the songwriting process?
For ‘Dark Sun’, I had written all of those songs before Charles came on the scene. For our next record, I’m sure it’ll be more of a collaboration. I write a lot of stuff, all of the time. If I never wrote another song, I would still be able to put out five or six albums. The hard part is developing the initial song idea into something that we can live with. Obviously, the end result is something that we really like. That’s what takes the most time for me. Charles is a master musician, and his basslines are so tasty. They definitely enhance everything that we do.

4. What are your musical influences?
Charles definitely worships Miles, Herbie Hancock, Thelonius, and Pat Metheny, amongst many, many others. Outside of jazz, he digs Hendrix, Zep, Groove Collective, Air, Motown, The Roots, and too much other stuff to mention. If it’s cool, he loves it, irrespective of genre. Jimmy Page is probably my biggest influence. As far as a rock musician, he was as complete as anyone I’ve ever heard. He could play any style, had the most incredible sound, and played the greatest solos. Plus he was a great songwriter and producer. His riffs are so musical and memorable. I also am a huge Steely Dan fan. When I was going to college, I went through a semester where I listened only to ‘Gold’ and ‘The Nightfly’, Fagan’s first solo album. You definitely can’t hear it in our music, but I also love Black Sabbath and AC/DC. I tried to style myself vocally after Jose Feliciano and Marvin Gaye. I emphasize the word ‘tried’. I’m also a huge Police and Pink Floyd fan. I could go on and on.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?
This is the hardest question for me. I guess it’s late 70’s pop/rock. It’s so important to have a good answer, but I just don’t have it.

6. What are your short-term goals (next 6 months – 2 years)?
I’d like to start recording our next album, try to do some live recording, and play some bigger festivals. Going to other parts of the country is something we want to do, too. And to other countries, particularly in Europe, where they seem to dig live music more. Definitely, we want to get more spins on AAA and college radio.

7. What about your long term goals?
Being able to sustain ourselves as working musicians. Pretty modest goals, but it would mean the world to me.

8. What would “success” look like for you?
Fulfilling those short and long term goals described above would look like success to me.

9. What are you most proud of in your music career so far?
Every time we do a show, I’m proud. I love it. I feel blessed to be able to play for people. When somebody comes up to us after a show and tells us that they enjoyed it, or that they came out that night just to see us again, it’s like I’m on a cloud. I’m also super proud of our latest record.

10. Where can people find more of your music?
We’re on iTunes, Rhapsody, MediaNet, Napster, and Amazon. Our CD’s can be purchased at our live shows, or on CD Baby.

11. Anything else you want to say? Stories to share? Shameless promotions to be had?
Buy our record! It is great. Please be our pal on MySpace. And please check out a show, you will not regret it! Thanks, TwoGroove, you guys rock!
